About 10 years ago I watched some channel 8 show on TV where there was this scene the 3 middle age ladies meet up at a restaurant, 1 was married with a daughter and the other 2 ladies were not. The Lady who was married asked her daughter to call her friends aunties and the 2 ladies’ facial expression was shocked.

At that I time thought that was a stupid scene.

2 days back I meet some of my schoolmates in Esplanade as one of them was having a road show. I asked Zofie to call them ‘auntie’; they were very reluctant to accept it and they wanted to be call as ‘jie jie’.
