The last time when Zofie was in Charie Hearts the teacher commented her as the best student in class. When I go to forum, talk to my friends and neighbors about their children’s school ‘meet the parent sessions’ all of them feedback to the parent the same thing ‘your child is the best in class.’ A lot of time when we go to elementary school we will find that the child might not turn out as good as what the childcare commented.
Today, before I see the teachers I was thinking sure they will say the same thing. I was prepared to shoot back about those comments on ‘your child is the best in class.’ However, the teachers did not make this kind of comment on any of the students.
English teacher
1) Zofie able to socialize with any of her friends
2) However not all student in the class is able to respond to her. Only ‘C…., RY…., D…., T….. and D…. were able to respond to her, therefore most of the time they were in the same group. ( I was thinking… wa… how come all her good friends are boys)
3) Zofie is very loud and playful; also she is rough while playing with the boys. ( I was thinking if she is going to be a tomboy?)
4) She is independent
5) She is not afraid of getting herself messy (I told the teacher I always bring her go out door play and make herself dirty)
6) The school spend 1 hr each day to see how the children play with their own peers and do problem solving. Most of the time she is able to manage any situation.
7) Her fine motor skill is almost there and she is able to grip a pencil and very soon she might be able to hold the pencil in a correct way. ( I was too tired each day to watch her gripping the colour pencils. All I could see was Zofie and Jana fighting for colour pencils)
8) She has very big movement and actions whenever they had their drama lesson. (Yea, I played big movement with her sometimes when we don’t get a chance to go out and play. I jump down from the sofa and roll on the floor. But that was too tiring for an adult. The worst part was Zofie wants more. The teacher said ‘oh, so she got it from you…’)
9) Teacher wanted me to reinforce ‘over, in, on and ect…’ because a lot of student was confuse about this. ( I guess sometimes zofie was confuse too)
Chinese
1) Zofie has no problem listening and speaking mandarin.
2) Even the teacher speak fast she is able to understand.
3) There were only 3 students in her class who was able to respond to the Chinese teacher.
4) The rest of the students were running around. (poor lao shi)
5) The teacher teach them to sing the mandarin butterfly song, Zofie immediately jump in and finish singing them before the teacher teach the class
6) The teacher was surprised.
7) Zofie is able to recognize all the words which the teacher flashed to Zofie.
8) I guess that was what makes learning fun, the teacher give zofie stars if she is able to read all of them.
9) The teacher expecting Zofie to speck fluent mandarin with correct sentences by end of this year. (I got one more thing to stress…)
Perhaps I had been reading too much on abnormal child psychology, so far, Zofie had no learning difficulties. It is ok if Zofie don’t ask ‘Why…’ perhaps she is an observer child. Teacher said I will get a headache if she starts asking why. Everyday the children come into the class, all of them can’t wait to go out door play.
